Redding Airport Simulates Aircraft Disaster in Full-Scale Emergency Readiness Exercise
Redding Municipal Airport (RDD) conducted a comprehensive, full-scale emergency exercise to test its disaster response protocols. The drill simulated a commercial aircraft crash with 50 volunteer 'victims' to create a realistic training scenario. Multiple agencies, including the Redding Fire Department, CHP, and Mercy Medical Center, participated to evaluate inter-agency communication and coordination. This type of exercise is mandated by the FAA every three years for all certified airports. The primary objective was to identify strengths and weaknesses in the existing emergency plan to ensure maximum preparedness for a real-world incident.
