Qantas Reaches AUD120 Million Settlement in COVID-19 Credit Class Action Lawsuit
Qantas has agreed to a proposed settlement in a class-action lawsuit concerning flight credits issued during the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline will pay AUD 120 million (USD 74.4 million) to resolve the matter, which was brought forward by Echo Law. This total includes AUD 100 million for affected customers and AUD 20 million to cover legal costs. The lawsuit alleged that Qantas unfairly retained customer funds from flights cancelled during the pandemic. Customers holding unused credits as of October 4, 2024, may be eligible for cash payments under the agreement. The settlement still requires final approval from the Federal Court of Australia.
