Port of Antwerp-Bruges Appoints COO Rob Smeets as New CEO
The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has named its current chief operations officer, Rob Smeets, as the next CEO. Smeets will officially take over the role on January 1, 2025, succeeding the retiring Jacques Vandermeiren. With a career at the port starting in 1995, Smeets was recognized for his instrumental role in the successful merger between the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge. The board of directors selected him based on his extensive operational expertise and leadership throughout the integration process. Vandermeiren is departing after an eight-year tenure where he oversaw the merger and solidified the port's global position.
