Pilot Killed in Upstate New York Glider Crash Identified as James Morzillo
A 68-year-old pilot from Carmel, New York, was killed in a glider crash on Sunday afternoon. James Morzillo was identified by state police as the sole occupant of the Schleicher ASW-27B glider that went down at Wurtsboro Airport in Sullivan County. The incident occurred shortly after takeoff while the glider was being towed. Authorities report that after releasing from the tow plane at about 300-400 feet, the glider made a left turn, stalled, and crashed into a wooded area. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the fatal accident.
