A single-engine experimental Lancair plane crashed onto a street in the San Fernando Valley on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred near the intersection of Hayvenhurst Avenue and Vanowen Street, shortly after the aircraft departed from nearby Van Nuys Airport. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was transported to a local hospital with unspecified injuries. During the crash, the plane struck power lines, causing an outage for approximately 2,000 customers, and also hit a parked car. The FAA and the NTSB will be investigating the cause of the accident.
