Peru Introduces Co-Funding Model to Accelerate New International Air Service
Peru's tourism promotion board, Promperú, has launched a new co-funding program to attract airlines and establish new international routes. This model shifts from previous marketing-only support to sharing the initial financial risks with carriers for the first one-to-two years of a new service. The initiative is designed to accelerate the recovery of the country's international connectivity, which is still below pre-pandemic levels. Managed by route development consultancy ASM, the program is funded by a tourism tax paid by international passengers. It primarily targets unserved long-haul markets in Europe, Asia, and Oceania, as well as new connections within the Americas.
