NTSB Report: Improper Weight and Balance Caused 2021 Vermont Piper Crash
The National Transportation Safety Board has released its final report on the December 2021 crash of a Piper PA-28R-200 in Bennington, Vermont. The investigation determined the probable cause was the pilot's improper preflight planning and failure to calculate the airplane's weight and balance. This resulted in the aircraft's center of gravity being approximately 2.5 inches beyond its aft limit. The plane, which was also overloaded by about 87 pounds, stalled and lost control shortly after takeoff. Both the pilot and a passenger sustained serious injuries in the accident.
