NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Fatal Mooney Crash Near Spirit of St. Louis Airport
The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its preliminary findings on a fatal plane crash near the Spirit of St. Louis Airport. The January 16 accident involved a single-engine Mooney M20J, resulting in the death of the 79-year-old pilot who was the sole person on board. According to the report, the aircraft began a descending left turn shortly after takeoff. A witness reported seeing the plane in a "nose-down, left-wing-low attitude" just before it impacted the ground. The investigation notes the aircraft had completed its annual inspection just four days prior to the fatal flight.
