NTSB Preliminary Report Suggests Engine Trouble in Bowie Plane Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on the May 12 crash of a single-engine Mooney M20J in Bowie, Maryland. According to the findings, the pilot was on final approach to Freeway Airport when he noticed low airspeed. He attempted to advance the throttle, but the engine did not respond as expected. The aircraft then struck trees and crashed in a residential backyard short of the runway. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, sustained serious injuries. The NTSB's investigation is ongoing to determine the probable cause.
