NTSB Preliminary Report: Fatal Westerly Crash Occurred on Post-Maintenance Test Flight
The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on a fatal crash involving a Van’s Aircraft RV-12iS at Westerly State Airport. The pilot, Jehangir J. Dastur, was conducting a test flight following significant engine maintenance he performed himself. This maintenance included a 100-hour inspection and the replacement of the engine's electronic control units. Witnesses reported hearing the engine lose power shortly after takeoff, after which the aircraft entered a descending left turn and crashed. The NTSB is continuing its investigation into the accident.
