NTSB: LaGuardia Controller Didn't Know Who 'Stop' Plea Was For During Runway Incursion
The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on a serious runway incursion at LaGuardia Airport on January 18. The incident involved a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 that was taking off as a Republic Airways Embraer E175 was cleared to cross the same runway. A Port Authority firefighter saw the potential collision and broadcasted "Stop, stop, stop" on the ground control frequency. According to the NTSB, the air traffic controller heard the plea but did not act because they were unsure who the transmission was intended for. The Republic jet safely crossed the runway just seconds after the Delta aircraft had lifted off.
