NTSB: Firefighter Heard 'Stop, Stop' Moments Before LaGuardia Runway Near-Collision
The National Transportation Safety Board released new findings regarding a near-collision at LaGuardia Airport. The incident involved a Southwest Airlines 737 cleared for takeoff and an American Airlines 737 that crossed the same runway. According to the NTSB's preliminary report, an airport firefighter monitoring air traffic control heard someone say 'stop, stop' just before the event. The firefighter, however, was unsure who the warning was for. Neither of the flight crews involved reported hearing the transmission. The investigation into the runway incursion is ongoing.
