NTSB Details Engine Trouble in Preliminary Report on Fatal Akron Plane Crash
The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on the fatal crash of a Mooney M20J in Akron, Ohio, on September 14. The report indicates the pilot radioed air traffic control about a rough-running engine shortly after takeoff from Akron-Fulton International Airport. He was attempting to return to the airport when the incident occurred. Witnesses saw the single-engine aircraft enter a steep descent before it crashed into a wooded area. The pilot and one passenger were fatally injured in the crash and subsequent fire. The wreckage has been recovered for further examination as the investigation continues.
