NTSB Cites Pilot Error as Probable Cause in Rep. Tom Tiffany's 2023 Plane Crash
The National Transportation Safety Board has released its final report on the September 2023 plane crash involving U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany. The report identifies pilot error as the probable cause for the incident near Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Investigators concluded the pilot failed to maintain adequate airspeed during the initial climb, leading to an aerodynamic stall. The report also noted the chartered Cessna 421C aircraft was approximately 24 pounds over its maximum takeoff weight. Fortunately, Rep. Tiffany, his staff, and the pilot all evacuated the aircraft without serious injuries.
