NTSB Cites Covered Airspeed Sensors in Fatal Texas Beechcraft Crash
The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on a fatal Beechcraft Bonanza crash in Georgetown, Texas. Investigators discovered that protective covers were still installed on the aircraft's pitot tube and static ports in the wreckage. This finding indicates the pilot was likely operating the aircraft without any reliable airspeed information. The NTSB noted that with the covers in place, the airspeed indicator would have been inoperative. The accident, which occurred on February 17, resulted in the deaths of both people on board.
