New IATP Chair from Virgin Atlantic to Target Boeing 787 Parts Shortages and Groundings
Ian Smith of Virgin Atlantic has been named the new chairman for the International Airlines Technical Pool (IATP). His immediate priority is to address the persistent and critical shortage of components for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. These supply chain issues are causing an increasing number of Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations for operators worldwide. Smith aims to leverage the IATP's resource-sharing framework to create a dedicated parts pool specifically for the 787. This initiative is designed to improve aircraft readiness and reduce costly operational disruptions across the industry.
