New B-21 Raider Photos Reveal Advanced Speed Brake Design Not Found on B-2 Spirit
Recent photographs of the B-21 Raider stealth bomber have unveiled a significant aerodynamic feature previously unseen on the aircraft. The images, captured during a test flight, clearly show a split-rudder or "clamshell" style speed brake system in operation. This design is a notable departure from the "beaver tail" control surface used on its predecessor, the B-2 Spirit. This modern speed brake system, similar to those on the F-22 and F-35 fighters, is expected to enhance flight control and maneuverability while maintaining the bomber's low-observable characteristics. The B-21 continues its flight test program at Edwards Air Force Base as it moves closer to operational service.
