NASA's X-59 'Quiet' Supersonic Jet Advances to Texas for Key Ground Tests
NASA's X-59 Quesst experimental aircraft has been moved from California to a Lockheed Martin facility in Fort Worth, Texas, for crucial structural testing. The jet is designed to fly faster than sound while reducing the loud sonic boom to a much quieter "sonic thump." These ground tests are a critical step before the aircraft's first flight, which will be followed by acoustic validation flights. Ultimately, NASA plans to fly the X-59 over several U.S. communities to gather public feedback on the noise level. This data will be provided to regulators in an effort to overturn the current ban on commercial supersonic flight over land.
