NASA and Electra.aero Unveil Hybrid-Electric Airliner Concept for Short-Haul Flights

NASA, in partnership with Electra.aero, has introduced a new turbo-electric aircraft concept aimed at revolutionizing regional air travel. The design features a single gas turbine that generates electricity to power eight electric motors distributed across the wing. This hybrid system, known as a 'blown-lift' configuration, enables the aircraft to perform extremely short takeoffs and landings. The concept is designed to carry up to 30 passengers on short-haul routes of up to 500 miles. By utilizing existing infrastructure at smaller airports, this technology aims to reduce emissions, noise, and operational costs for regional airlines.
