Merlin's AI Pilot System Completes Autonomous Helicopter Flight in Texas Demonstration
Aviation technology company Merlin has successfully demonstrated its autonomous flight system, Merlin Pilot, at the AFWERX Agility Prime program in Texas. The AI-powered system was integrated into a Robinson R44 helicopter for the event. During the demonstration, the Merlin Pilot executed a complete "gate-to-gate" flight, which included autonomous taxi, takeoff, mission flight, and landing. While the flight was fully autonomous, a human safety pilot was onboard to oversee the operation at Fort Worth Alliance Airport. This achievement marks a significant step in developing autonomous capabilities for both military and future commercial aviation.
