May Air Cargo Demand Soars 12% on Strong E-Commerce Growth
Global air cargo demand increased by 12% year-on-year in May, marking the fifth consecutive month of double-digit growth for the industry. This sustained surge is primarily attributed to the booming e-commerce market, which is driving high volumes on key international trade lanes. Specifically, the corridors from China to both Europe and the United States experienced significant increases in demand. As a result, the global dynamic load factor rose to 62%, three percentage points higher than in May 2023. This increased demand also pushed air freight spot rates higher, with notable jumps recorded from April levels.
