Man Wrongly Arrested in 2018 Gatwick Drone Incident Loses £200k Damages Claim
A man wrongly arrested over the 2018 Gatwick Airport drone disruption has lost his High Court damages claim. Paul Gait and his wife sued Sussex Police for £200,000 for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment after being held for 36 hours. The couple was later released without charge and received a public apology. However, a judge has now dismissed their claim, ruling that police had reasonable grounds to suspect them at the time of the arrest. The widespread drone sightings caused chaos at Gatwick, grounding over 1,000 flights and affecting 140,000 passengers.
