Maldivian Twin Otter Loses Main Wheel on Takeoff, Lands Safely in Malé

A De Havilland Twin Otter aircraft, operated by Maldivian, experienced a serious mechanical failure during a domestic flight. The aircraft's left main wheel detached shortly after taking off from Velana International Airport in Malé. The flight crew immediately declared an emergency and initiated a return to the airport. Approximately 15 minutes after departure, the pilots successfully landed the aircraft without the wheel. All passengers and crew disembarked safely, and no injuries were reported.
