Lufthansa Technik and Airbus to Extend AeroSHARK Application to Wings and Tailplanes
Lufthansa Technik and Airbus are expanding their collaboration on the fuel-saving AeroSHARK technology. The innovative riblet film, designed to mimic the properties of sharkskin to reduce aerodynamic drag, will now be applied to the wings and tailplanes of aircraft. This expansion beyond the fuselage is expected to generate significantly greater fuel savings and CO2 reductions. The partners are working towards obtaining a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for this extended application on specific Airbus family aircraft. This development represents a key step in leveraging biomimicry to enhance aircraft efficiency and sustainability across the industry.
