Lufthansa Cargo MD-11F Destroyed in Riyadh Landing Accident
A Lufthansa Cargo McDonnell Douglas MD-11F was destroyed after a hard landing at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The aircraft, operating as flight GEC8460 from Frankfurt, bounced upon touching down on runway 33L. Following the bounce, the aircraft experienced an extremely hard second landing, causing the fuselage to break in two just behind the wings. A fire subsequently erupted, consuming the wreckage. Both the Captain and First Officer managed to evacuate via an emergency slide and sustained only minor injuries.
