Iredell County, North Carolina Becomes First in U.S. to Deploy eVTOL Aircraft for 911 Emergency Response

Iredell County EMS in North Carolina has become the first emergency medical service in the nation to operationally deploy an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for 911 calls. The program, called 'Health-E-Response,' utilizes the Wingcopter 198 drone, operated by Spright, the drone division of Air Methods. This innovative system is designed to deliver critical medical supplies like AEDs and naloxone to an emergency scene before ground crews can arrive. The goal is to significantly reduce the time to deliver lifesaving interventions, thereby improving patient outcomes, especially in rural areas. The drone can travel up to 60 mph and carry a 13-pound payload. This deployment marks a major milestone in integrating advanced aerial technology into public emergency services.
