Iraqi Airways Resumes European Flights via Saudi Arabian Airspace
Iraqi Airways has resumed limited passenger flights to several European destinations, marking a significant return after being barred from the bloc's airspace. The carrier is bypassing European Union restrictions by utilizing a wet-leased A320 aircraft operated by Romanian carrier Dan Air. This strategy circumvents the EU's ban, which applies to aircraft on the Iraqi register due to safety oversight concerns, not the airline itself. The new routes from Baghdad and Erbil connect to cities in Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. Notably, these flights are now operating through newly accessible Saudi Arabian airspace.
