Inside the X-59: A Deep Dive into NASA's Quest for Quiet Supersonic Flight

NASA's X-59 Quiet SuperSonic Technology (QueSST) aircraft is a purpose-built demonstrator designed to fly faster than the speed of sound without creating a loud sonic boom. Its unique, long and slender airframe is specifically engineered to turn disruptive shockwaves into a much quieter sonic "thump." The aircraft features an innovative External Vision System, which replaces a forward-facing cockpit window with a series of high-resolution cameras and displays. NASA will fly the X-59 over several U.S. communities to gather public response data on the reduced noise level. This data is critical for regulators to potentially overturn the long-standing ban on supersonic flight over land, paving the way for a new generation of commercial supersonic air travel.
