Iberia Airbus A350 Winglet Damaged by Botched Water Cannon Salute in Miami, Forcing Flight Cancellation
An Iberia Airbus A350-900 sustained significant damage at Miami International Airport during a planned water cannon salute. Instead of the traditional water arc, a fire truck malfunctioned and fired a single, high-pressure jet of water directly at the aircraft. The powerful stream struck the plane's right-hand winglet, causing a portion of it to break off. As a result of the damage, the Madrid-bound flight was canceled, leaving passengers stranded. The aircraft required repairs before it could be returned to service.
