Hypercar V12 Diesel Engine Adapted as Range Extender for eVTOLs
Astron Aerospace is developing a compact, lightweight V12 diesel rotary engine as a range extender for eVTOL aircraft. Originally conceived for hypercars, the Omega 1 engine weighs just 35 pounds yet produces 160 horsepower. The technology aims to solve the significant range limitations of current all-electric urban air mobility vehicles. By pairing two engines with a generator, the system would create a 320-horsepower hybrid unit to recharge batteries during flight. This innovation could enable longer missions and greater operational flexibility for future air taxis.
