House Transportation Leaders Demand FAA Answers Following Austin Near-Collision

Leaders of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure are demanding a briefing from the Federal Aviation Administration. The request follows a serious runway incursion incident at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on February 4, 2023. The event involved a FedEx Boeing 767 on final approach and a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 cleared for takeoff on the same runway. The two aircraft came within 100 feet of a catastrophic collision. The committee is expressing extreme concern and questioning the FAA's air traffic control procedures, technology, and staffing levels.
