Horizon Aircraft Commences Critical Icing Tests for Cavorite X7 eVTOL
Horizon Aircraft has initiated icing trials for its Cavorite X7 hybrid-electric eVTOL, a crucial step toward achieving all-weather operational capability. The tests are being conducted in the icing wind tunnel at the University of Toronto's Institute for Aerospace Studies. A 22-percent scale model of the aircraft's patented fan-in-wing system is being subjected to various simulated icing conditions, including freezing rain and drizzle. This validation process is essential for the Cavorite X7 to meet FAA certification requirements for flight into known icing (FIKI) conditions. The company is targeting type certification for its five-seat aircraft by 2029.
