Hawaiian Airlines Explores New One-Stop Route to Europe for Australians Following Alaska Air Takeover
Alaska Airlines' proposed $US1.9 billion acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines could create a new one-stop travel route to Europe for Australians. The potential path would involve flying from Australia to Honolulu, then connecting to a US East Coast city like Boston before crossing the Atlantic. This new option is made possible by combining Hawaiian's long-haul aircraft, including new Boeing 787s, with Alaska's extensive domestic US network. The route would offer an alternative to traditional stopovers in the Middle East or Asia. However, the merger that enables this possibility is still subject to regulatory approval, which is expected to take 12 to 18 months.
