Global Airfreight Rates Climb as Capacity Tightens Worldwide
Global airfreight rates have increased for the second consecutive week, indicating a renewed tightening in worldwide cargo capacity. The Baltic Air Freight Index (BAI) recorded a 2.1% week-on-week rise, primarily driven by strong demand on routes from China to Europe and North America. This surge is attributed to a combination of factors, including the ongoing Red Sea shipping disruptions which are pushing freight to sea-air solutions. Additionally, a massive increase in e-commerce volumes from major platforms is further straining available airline capacity, leading to fully booked flights from key Asian hubs.
