GAO Report: FAA Faces Staffing and Training Hurdles in Enhanced Boeing Oversight
A new Government Accountability Office (GAO) report finds the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) faces significant challenges in its intensified oversight of Boeing. Following recent manufacturing issues, the FAA has increased its presence at Boeing facilities and conducted more audits. However, the agency is struggling with hiring, training, and retaining enough staff for these expanded oversight roles. The report also notes that Boeing's safety culture data is inconsistent, making it difficult for the FAA to validate improvements. GAO recommends that the FAA develop a comprehensive plan to address these staffing and expertise gaps to ensure effective oversight.
