Fraport Deploys Fully Electric Aircraft Tugs at Frankfurt Airport
Fraport has introduced two new fully electric, towbarless aircraft tugs at its Frankfurt Airport hub as part of its sustainability initiative. The Goldhofer PHOENIX E models are powerful enough to handle large passenger aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747. With a 165 kWh battery capacity, each tug can perform approximately 20 pushback operations before requiring a recharge. This deployment is a key step in Fraport's strategy to make its ground handling operations fully electric by 2040. The move aims to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and noise pollution at Germany's busiest airport.
