ForeFlight and Jeppesen Introduce Emergency Glide Mode to Enhance Pilot Safety
Jeppesen and ForeFlight have collaborated to launch a significant new safety feature within the ForeFlight Mobile application called Emergency Glide Mode. This tool is specifically designed to assist pilots in the critical event of an engine failure. When activated, it displays a dynamic glide range ring on the map, indicating the aircraft's potential gliding distance based on its current altitude and performance. The system also automatically identifies and highlights the nearest suitable airports within that glide range. This innovation provides pilots with immediate situational awareness, helping them make faster and more informed decisions. Ultimately, the feature aims to improve the outcome of engine-out emergencies by simplifying the process of selecting a viable landing site.
