Florida Legislature Passes Bill to Ban ADS-B-Based Landing Fees

The Florida legislature has passed a bill that prohibits municipalities and counties from using Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data to charge pilots landing fees. This move was a direct response to a controversial plan by the Naples Airport Authority to implement an ADS-B-based billing system. Aviation advocacy groups, including AOPA and EAA, strongly supported the legislation. They argued that using the safety-mandated technology for billing invades privacy and could discourage pilots from using ADS-B altogether. The bill has successfully passed both the state House and Senate and now awaits the governor's signature.
