FIATA Calls for Urgent Review of IATA's Direct Air Waybill Changes
The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) is urging the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to review and halt recent changes to the Master Air Waybill (AWB). The new rules, under Resolution 672, permit the actual shipper's name to appear directly on the Master AWB, bypassing the freight forwarder. FIATA argues this move was made without proper consultation and creates significant legal, liability, and operational confusion. The organization states that this change undermines the established role of the freight forwarder as the contractual partner to the airline. FIATA is calling for a collaborative dialogue to address the serious concerns raised by the forwarding community.
