FedEx Drone Trials in Bengaluru Slash Mid-Mile Delivery Times
FedEx Express, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), has successfully completed drone delivery trials in Bengaluru, India. The tests focused on improving mid-mile logistics, which is the transport of shipments between different company stations. Using a hybrid drone, the trials demonstrated a significant reduction in delivery time compared to conventional road transport. For one specific 13-kilometer route, the drone completed the journey in just 15 minutes, a fraction of the time it would take by vehicle in the city's congested traffic. This successful proof-of-concept marks a significant step toward integrating autonomous drone technology into the FedEx network in India.
