Falkland Islands' Sole South American Air Link Severed After Argentina Revokes Permit
The only commercial air link between the Falkland Islands and South America has been suspended. The flight, operated by LATAM Airlines, connected Mount Pleasant with Punta Arenas in Chile, with a crucial stop in Rio Gallegos, Argentina. This suspension comes after the Argentinian government decided to withdraw permission for the flight to operate in its airspace. The decision is tied to the long-standing sovereignty dispute over the islands, which Argentina refers to as Las Malvinas. This cancellation leaves the islands with only a twice-weekly flight to the United Kingdom for most civilian travel.
