FAA Marks Milestone with First Pilotless eVTOL Test Flight and New Drone Rulemaking Committee
The Federal Aviation Administration has taken significant steps to advance the integration of new aviation technologies. The agency announced the first-ever remotely piloted test flight of a Joby Aviation eVTOL aircraft, which was conducted without a human pilot on board at Edwards Air Force Base. This marks a critical milestone in the development of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). Concurrently, the FAA has established a new Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) to provide recommendations for uncrewed aircraft operating beyond the pilot's visual line of sight. These parallel developments signal the FAA's commitment to creating a regulatory framework for the future of eVTOLs and commercial drones.
