FAA Launches Pilot Program to Simulate eVTOL Commercial Operations with Joby, Archer, and Beta
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has initiated a new pilot program to prepare for the commercial integration of eVTOL air taxis. This program will simulate passenger-carrying flights using conventional aircraft as stand-ins for the not-yet-certified eVTOLs from companies like Joby Aviation, Archer Aviation, and Beta Technologies. The goal is to gather crucial data on flight procedures, air traffic management, and ground infrastructure requirements. By using existing aircraft to mimic future operations, the FAA is adopting a proactive "crawl, walk, run" strategy. This approach aims to ensure a smooth and safe introduction of these advanced aircraft into the national airspace, avoiding the regulatory delays previously seen with drone integration.
