FAA Investigates Near-Miss Between United Airlines 737 and Military Helicopter at John Wayne Airport
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a close-call incident at John Wayne Airport in Orange County. The event involved a United Airlines Boeing 737 that was cleared for takeoff and a military AH-1 Cobra helicopter that was cleared to cross the same runway. The two aircraft came within 700 feet horizontally and 200 feet vertically of each other on Wednesday afternoon. United Airlines has confirmed the incident and is cooperating with the FAA's investigation. No injuries were reported as a result of the runway incursion.
