FAA and NTSB Investigate Near-Collision at JFK Involving American and Delta Jets

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a serious runway incursion at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. The incident occurred Friday night when an American Airlines Boeing 777 crossed an active runway without air traffic control clearance. At the same time, a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 was accelerating for takeoff on that runway. Controllers issued an urgent alert, prompting the Delta crew to abort their takeoff to avoid a collision. The two aircraft came within approximately 1,000 feet of each other, triggering a full investigation by both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
