EU's Clean Aviation Successor Program to Expand Scope, Focus on Market Introduction
The European Union's next sustainable aviation research program, the successor to Clean Aviation, is set to launch from 2028 under the FP10 framework. This new initiative will significantly expand its scope beyond technology maturation to include market introduction and commercialization support. The primary objective is to bridge the 'valley of death' where promising technologies often fail to reach the market. The program will focus on enabling the entry-into-service of new sustainable aircraft, such as regional and short-to-medium-range models, by the mid-2030s. This strategic shift aims to ensure that public research funding directly translates into tangible reductions in aviation's climate impact.
