European Airline Chiefs Urge Delay on E-SAF Mandates
Top executives from Europe's five largest airline groups are calling on the European Commission to postpone the upcoming mandate for e-sustainable aviation fuels (e-SAFs). The CEOs of IAG, Air France-KLM, Lufthansa Group, easyJet, and Ryanair argue the 2030 target is currently unachievable. Under the ReFuelEU regulation, 1.2% of all jet fuel must be e-SAF by 2030, a target the airlines say cannot be met due to a lack of production scalability. They cite major concerns over the high cost and limited availability of the green hydrogen and renewable electricity required to produce these synthetic fuels, warning of a significant cost burden without sufficient supply.
