EU Commissioner Vows to Protect Aviation Sector's Global Competitiveness
European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean has reassured the aviation industry that the EU will not allow its competitiveness to be undermined by new environmental regulations. Speaking at an industry event, Vălean stated that the implementation of the 'Fit for 55' climate package will be carefully managed to prevent 'carbon leakage.' This strategy aims to stop traffic and investment from shifting to non-EU hubs to avoid sustainability costs. She emphasized the need for a balanced approach that supports the sector's green transition while maintaining a global level playing field for European carriers.
