Emirates A380 Wake Turbulence Causes Severe Roll on Eurowings A320, Injuring Crew
A German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) report has detailed a serious incident involving an Emirates A380 and a Eurowings A320 near Hamburg. On March 7th, 2023, the Eurowings jet encountered powerful wake turbulence from the preceding superjumbo shortly after takeoff. The smaller aircraft experienced a sudden, uncommanded roll, banking up to 53 degrees. This violent maneuver resulted in serious injuries to two flight attendants. The investigation highlights the significant dangers of wake turbulence, even when standard separation distances are maintained.
