Elroy Air's Chaparral C1 Completes First Autonomous Flights Under FAA Program
Elroy Air has successfully conducted the first uncrewed, autonomous flights of its Chaparral C1 cargo aircraft. The milestone flights took place at Byron Airport, California, as part of the FAA's BEYOND program, which focuses on integrating uncrewed aircraft into national airspace. This achievement marks the first time an aircraft within the BEYOND program has demonstrated autonomous flight operations. The Chaparral is a hybrid-electric VTOL designed for middle-mile logistics, humanitarian aid, and resupply missions. It is capable of transporting 300-500 lbs of cargo over a range of 300 miles.
